We're launching a new communication tool at the electSloan campaign to help keep supporters in Hastings-Lennox & Addington informed about what our candidate Derek Sloan and his campaign team are doing around the riding. This is the first edition of our Weekly Update - we hope you find it informative.
We’ve had a great few weeks, including some excellent training in Ottawa and some boots on the ground in H-L&A—and we’ve definitely needed our boots!
Derek and Campaign Manager Eric Lorenzen attended the Conservative Party’s “Victory School” Jan. 24-26 in Ottawa. They were trained on a range of topics, including get-out-the-vote strategies, campaign organization, and voter outreach tools. Derek also participated in a "Super Caucus" meeting in the West Block of the Parliament Buildings with the CPC caucus and candidates from ridings across Canada. He had lots of opportunities to meet and learn from sitting MPs and Party strategists!
Once back from Ottawa, canvassing resumed, with Derek knocking on doors in Madoc and our National Super Canvass event in Napanee last Saturday & Sunday. We had a great turnout of volunteers, including some Queen’s University students and candidate Tim Durkin & some of his team from Bay of Quinte. Canvassers wound up at Napanee’s Waterfront Pub on Sunday to watch the Super Bowl with Derek. We hope to return the favour to Bay of Quinte on Saturday, Feb. 9--let us know if you’d like to join us! It’s a lot of fun to get out & get to know fellow Conservatives. If you haven’t canvassed before, you’ll be given some simple instructions, and you are never sent to a door alone.
This coming Thursday, Feb. 7, Derek will be at a meet-and-greet at Deadleaf Barber Shop in Napanee, 42 Dundas St. E., from 3:00-6:00. Come on out for a drink, some great conversation, and even a haircut if you need one. And bring a friend!
Teams will also be out knocking on doors this week in Flinton and in Tweed. We are building our list of volunteers, so if you’d like to get involved, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
And here’s something else you can do to help electSloan—all without setting foot out in the cold, the snow and the slush. Are you on Facebook? If so, please “like” our page (www.facebook.com/ElectSloanHLA) and then, please click on “Invite Friends” on the right side of the page. This is a great (and free!) way for us to build awareness of the campaign and share our positive, Conservative message.
Finally, did you know that when you donate to our local Conservative association, that money stays right here in HLA to help elect Derek? And up to 75% of your donation could be eligible for a tax credit on your 2019 tax return. Election campaigns are expensive, and the money needed comes almost exclusively from donations from individuals in our riding. We can accept donations from individuals only (not from corporations or businesses). Cheques should be made payable to H-L&A Conservative Association and sent to PO Box 111, Madoc, Ontario, K0K 2K0. We cannot accept cash or credit card information through the mail; however, you can donate online at: www.hlaconservative.ca/donate.
NOTE: The new annual contribution limit for 2019 is $1600, up from $1575.
Thanks for your interest in Team electSloan - together we can send Derek to Parliament and elect a Conservative government in October.
