Weekly Update

June 11 2019

Last Week around H-L&A

It was a rainy day in Northbrook on Sunday, but lots of people were happy to see us--one lovely lady even invited us in for freshly-baked cookies! We told you canvassing is fun!

We celebrated two birthdays in our house last week-- my daughter Nora’s and my wife Jen’s. I'm so thankful for the love and support of my family!

Happy 3rd birthday to my daughter Nora

Happy birthday Jen! Here with daughters Fiona & Nora

We spent a great evening in Napanee with MP Ed Fast (Abbotsford) on June 6. Mr. Fast is our party's Shadow Minister for the Environment and Climate Change. He was very informative and knowledgeable on both the environment & climate change (his current portfolio) and on international trade (he was Minister of International Trade under Prime Minister Stephen Harper), and shared his insight on our party's policies in each of these important areas. Once it's available, we’ll be sharing some of that speech with you--stay tuned! Also, Mr. Fast confirmed that we can expect a release of the full Conservative election platform for the environment by the end of this month- we will share a link on our website and social media when it is released. Thanks to all who came out to this event.

I spent an informative and enjoyable evening at the Napanee Rod and Gun Club this week, along with visiting MP Cheryl Gallant (Renfrew—Nipissing—Pembroke).

Upcoming events!

Join us this Sunday, June 16 to meet MP Blake Richards (Banff-Airdrie). We'll be hosting a reception for him at 6:00 pm at the Signal Brewery in Corbyville. June 16 is Fathers’ Day, but what better way to spend a Fathers’ Day evening than drinking craft beer beside the Moira River at one of our riding's most beautiful spots?

Mr. Richards is the Shadow Minister for Small Business, Export Promotion and Tourism, and has been recognized three times over as the Hardest Working and Best Constituency MP in The Hill Times' Annual Survey. He is also known as a vocal advocate for victims of crime.

Everyone is welcome! (There is no charge for attending this event.) RSVP at our website: https://www.electsloan.ca/richards

Canvassing this week

We’d also love to have you join us before the Blake Richards reception -  we will be canvassing with him in Foxboro on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. We will meet in the parking lot of the Foodland grocery store at 54 Frankford Rd. No experience is necessary; we will give you training on our simple canvassing strategy, and you will be paired up with an experienced campaigner. All are welcome! Email us at info@electSloan.ca if you can join us.

Update from the national Conservative Party

We are very excited about the coming months of the campaign, partly because the Party is now beginning to release more specifics on the Conservative platform.

In a series of speeches called "My Vision for Canada", our leader Andrew Scheer has addressed Foreign Policy, the Economy, Immigration and Confederation. (Still to come, a speech on the Environment.)

In his most recent speech, “A Closer and Freer Confederation”, Andrew says, “My vision for our country is one of open federalism that recognizes that decisions should be made by the smallest and closest authority to the people affected. A federation built on respect for provincial jurisdiction, with provinces as full partners and Quebecers as a nation within a united Canada. A Canada that makes meaningful progress with Indigenous peoples leading the way as full partners in their own prosperity. And a country where rights come with certain responsibilities: a two-way street of nation-building, where transparency and accountability are the cornerstones.”

You can watch or read more of this excellent speech here: https://myvisionforcanada.ca/confederation

As many of you know, H-L&A is considered a “swing riding” as it was won by only a few hundred votes in 2015. We are very confident we will turn it blue this fall--but we need all hands on deck in order to do so!

We have secured campaign office space in Napanee and the office will open right after Canada Day--stay tuned! Of course there will be lots of office volunteer positions available; email us at info@electSloan.ca if you're interested in helping with the campaign. We have a job for every skill set - there is a lot to be done!

As always, we are grateful for your support for this Campaign and we will keep working together to spread our positive Conservative vision for Canada and for Hastings—Lennox & Addington. Donations of any amount are always welcome: When you give to our local Conservative association (up to the 2019 max. of $1600), that money stays right here in HLA, and up to 75% of your donation could be eligible for a tax credit on your 2019 tax return. We can accept donations from Canadian individuals only (not from corporations or businesses). Cheques should be made payable to H-L&A Conservative Association and sent to PO Box 111, Madoc, Ontario, K0K 2K0. We cannot accept cash or credit card information through the mail; however, you can donate online at: www.electsloan.ca/donate.

Join the Victory Club!

To reach our goal of being election-ready, we are launching Victory Club, a program that will go a long way towards reaching our fundraising target and will give us the necessary tools to run a successful campaign. Our target can be reached if only 250 people donate $400. A $400 donation costs you only $100 out-of-pocket after the generous tax credit! And remember, every eligible member of your household can donate separately and join our Victory Club. We recently had a husband and wife donate $400 each--$800 for the campaign and only $200 out-of-pocket for them! See below for donation info.
