Campaign electSloan Weekly Update
June 25 2019
Last Week around H-L&A
Last Sunday was a beautiful warm summer day for door-knocking in Marmora. Thanks to everyone there who chatted with us!
Team electSloan members attended the Conservative Party of Canada's Victory School election readiness training last weekend in Oakville. Our team is in place, trained, motivated, & ready for the election!
With Campaign Manager Eric Lorenzen at Victory School in Oakville
We are excited to announce the grand opening of our campaign office at 21 Dundas St. W in Napanee! Join us for a reception and ribbon-cutting on Tuesday, July 2 at 7:00 pm. Everyone is welcome - stop in and meet our campaign team!
Location of our new campaign office, opening July 2
On July 1, our team and I will be busy attending Canada Day celebrations across the riding. In the morning we'll be marching in the parade in Marmora at 10:00 am, and in the afternoon we’ll be in the Bath Canada Day parade at 1:00 pm. We'll finish the day off in Bancroft at Riverside Park in time for the evening fireworks. We'll be wearing our Team Sloan shirts, so keep an eye out for us! If you’d like to help out at any of these appearances or join us in either of the parades, let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Canvassing this week
We’ll be canvassing in Bath on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00. We will meet in the parking lot of St. Linus' Church, 217 Main St. No experience is necessary; we will give you training on our simple canvassing strategy, and you will be paired up with an experienced campaigner. All are welcome! Email us at info@electSloan.ca if you can join us.
Meet Team ElectSloan Volunteer Will Lyons
Speaking of canvassing, we’re pleased to introduce you to another one of Team ElectSloan’s fantastic volunteers. Will Lyons lives in Stirling, ON and is our campaign's Volunteer Coordinator, as well as a faithful canvasser and all-around good guy, helping out at all our events. Will studied Philosophy and Canadian studies at the University of Ottawa. After moving back to the Stirling area he volunteered for Daryl Kramp in last year's Ontario provincial election. He says, “After meeting Derek I became a card-carrying member of the Party and worked as his nomination campaign manager, and have never looked back.” Will adds, “I’m looking forward to working with you all over this summer so we can turn Hastings-Lennox & Addington blue this fall.”

Update from the national party
We are very excited about the coming months of the campaign, partly because the Party is now beginning to release more specifics on the Conservative platform.
In a series of speeches called “My Vision for Canada,” Andrew Scheer has addressed Foreign Policy, the Economy, Immigration, Confederation and the Environment.
In his “My Vision” speech on the Environment, Andrew says,
“Canadians expect results. And Conservatives know that Liberals are great at making promises. But Conservatives are great at delivering.Because protecting the environment is a core conservative principle.Whatever we inherit from those who came before us we must leave in better shape for those who come after us.
And Conservatives have a proud legacy when it comes to managing Canada’s natural environment and improving Canada’s environmental performance.
This legacy spans the full history of our country. The founder of our party and Canada’s first Prime Minister – Sir John A. Macdonald – laid the groundwork for the national parks system and created the first three – Banff, Yoho, and Glacier. Years later, Prime Minister Robert Borden championed arctic exploration to establish a scientific understanding of our northern frontier.
Prime Minister John Diefenbaker further entrenched Canada’s arctic sovereignty with his Roads to Resources policy while also enshrining in legislation Canadian Environment Week, an annual tradition encouraging environmental action that continues to this day.
Brian Mulroney – named Canada’s greenest Prime Minister in 2006 – negotiated the Canada-United States acid rain treaty, created eight new national parks, and brought in the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, Canada’s first ever comprehensive pollution law.
The previous Conservative government achieved a net decline of greenhouse gas emissions between 2007 and 2015 through targeted programs in the agriculture, transportation, and energy sectors.
The plan I am announcing today – A Real Plan to Protect Our Environment – builds on our proud Conservative legacy.
Our plan strikes a balance between the need for Canada to combat climate change by reducing global emissions and our core promise of leaving more money in the pockets of Canadiens and letting them get ahead.
A Real Plan to Protect Our Environment is built on three guiding principles:
1. Green technology, not taxes.
2. A cleaner and greener natural environment.
3. Taking the climate change fight global.
This plan is the most comprehensive environmental platform ever put forward by a political party in Canada – far surpassing anything Justin Trudeau put out before the 2015 election….”

Join the Victory Club!
To reach our goal of being election-ready, we are launching Victory Club, a program that will go a long way towards reaching our fundraising target and will give us the necessary tools to run a successful campaign. Our target can be reached if only 250 people donate $400. A $400 donation costs you only $100 out-of-pocket after the generous tax credit! And remember, every eligible member of your household can donate separately and join our Victory Club. We recently had a husband and wife donate $400 each--$800 for the campaign and only $200 out-of-pocket for them! See below for donation info.
As many of you know, H-L&A is considered a “swing riding” as it was won by only a few hundred votes in 2015. We are very confident we will turn it blue this fall--but we need all hands on deck in order to do so!
We have secured campaign office space in Napanee and the office will open right after Canada Day--stay tuned! Of course there will be lots of office volunteer positions available; email us at info@electSloan.ca or visit our website at https://www.electsloan.ca/volunteer if you're interested in helping with the campaign. We have a job for every skill set - there is a lot to be done!
As always, we are grateful for your support for this campaign and we will keep working together to spread our positive Conservative vision for Canada and for Hastings—Lennox & Addington. Donations of any amount are always welcome: When you give to our local Conservative association (up to the 2019 max. of $1600), that money stays right here in HLA, and up to 75% of your donation could be eligible for a tax credit on your 2019 tax return. We can accept donations from Canadian individuals only (not from corporations or businesses). Cheques should be made payable to H-L&A Conservative Association and sent to PO Box 111, Madoc, Ontario, K0K 2K0. We cannot accept cash or credit card information through the mail; however, you can donate online at: www.electsloan.ca/donate.
